Product Description

ERCu is a copper-based welding electrode/filler metal designed for welding copper and copper alloys. With a minimum copper content of 95%, ERCu is equivalent to AWS A5.7 ERCu and is suitable for brazing and welding applications on copper, brass, bronze, and dissimilar metal combinations including copper-to-steel and copper-to-cast iron joints. The deposit provides excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, good corrosion resistance, and superior flow characteristics, making it ideal for electrical connections, heat exchangers, and plumbing applications.

Features

▪ Excellent Electrical and Thermal Conductivity: High copper content ensures superior electrical and thermal conductivity, making ERCu ideal for applications requiring optimal current flow or heat transfer. The weld deposit maintains approximately 80-90% of pure copper's conductivity.
▪ Good Corrosion Resistance: Copper base provides excellent resistance to atmospheric corrosion, fresh water, and mild chemical environments. Suitable for outdoor and marine applications where durability is essential.
▪ Superior Flow and Wetting: ERCu demonstrates excellent flow characteristics with low surface tension, ensuring complete joint penetration and smooth, uniform weld beads. The filler metal spreads evenly into joint surfaces, reducing voids and defects.
▪ Versatile Positional Welding: Suitable for all welding positions (flat, horizontal, vertical-up, overhead) with appropriate heat input control. Can be used with oxy-fuel brazing, TIG, MIG, or shielded metal arc welding processes.

Applications

▪ ERCu is extensively used in electrical and thermal applications requiring high conductivity:
▪ Electrical Industry: Bus bars, electrical contacts, transformer components, switchgear, and grounding connections requiring high electrical conductivity.
▪ Heat Transfer Equipment: Heat exchangers, cooling coils, condenser tubes, and HVAC components where efficient thermal transfer is critical.
▪ Plumbing and Pipe Systems: Copper tubing, water distribution systems, HVAC refrigeration piping, and beverage processing equipment.
▪ Dissimilar Metal Welding: Copper-to-steel transitions, copper-to-cast iron connections, and joining copper alloys to ferrous metals in structural applications.

FAQS

图片名称

What is the difference between ERCu and ERCuNi alloys?

图片名称

ERCu is approximately 95-98% copper with minimal alloying elements, offering maximum conductivity. ERCuNi contains nickel additions (typically 8-12% Ni) which increase strength and corrosion resistance but slightly reduce electrical conductivity. Choose ERCu for maximum conductivity; select ERCuNi for high-strength, corrosive environments.

图片名称

Can ERCu be used for welding copper-to-steel joints?

图片名称

Yes, ERCu can be used for copper-to-steel applications, typically through brazing or TIG welding processes. However, proper joint design and heat input control are essential to avoid cracking and ensure adequate penetration. For structural applications, bronze alloys (e.g., ECuSn-A) may provide better strength.

图片名称

What preheat temperature is recommended for welding thick copper sections with ERCu?

图片名称

For thick copper sections (>10mm), preheating to 200-400°C is recommended to compensate for copper's high thermal conductivity and reduce welding stress. Thin sections (<3mm) can often be welded without preheating using controlled heat input and proper technique.
