Product Description
RBCuZn-D is a premium nickel silver brazing filler metal compliant with AWS A5.8/A5.8M standards, designed as a cost-effective replacement for high-cost silver brazing alloys when higher brazing temperatures are acceptable. Featuring a specialized composition with copper (46.0-50.0wt.%), nickel (9.0-11.0wt.%), zinc (balance), silicon (0.04-0.25wt.%), and phosphorus (≤0.25wt.%), it delivers very high tensile strength, good ductility, and excellent corrosion resistance. Available in bare and flux-coated forms, it supports torch, induction, and furnace brazing processes for demanding industrial applications.
Features
▪ Superior Mechanical Properties: Delivers exceptional tensile strength (550-675MPa/80-98ksi), good ductility (25% elongation), and high hardness (90-120HB). The high nickel content provides superior strength compared to other copper-based brazing alloys, making joints suitable for heavy-duty and high-stress applications where maximum mechanical performance is required.
▪ Excellent Corrosion Resistance & Machinability: Offers outstanding resistance to corrosion in various environments, including marine and industrial atmospheres. The brazed deposits are readily machinable and will not work harden when put into service, allowing for post-brazing machining operations and maintaining dimensional stability during service life.
▪ Cost-Effective Alternative: Serves as an economical replacement for expensive silver-based brazing alloys when higher brazing temperatures are acceptable. Provides comparable or superior mechanical performance at significantly lower cost, making it an attractive choice for applications requiring high strength without the expense of silver brazing alloys.
Applications
▪ Ideal for heavy-duty brazing requiring high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, RBCuZn-D is widely used in:
▪ Tungsten Carbide Brazing: Primary application for brazing tungsten carbide to copper, tungsten carbide to nickel, tungsten carbide to stainless steel, and tungsten carbide to steel. Used for manufacturing and repairing drill bits, cutting tools, mining equipment, excavation machinery, and heavy-duty tooling exposed to severe service conditions.
▪ Maintenance & Repair Overlay: Building up and overlaying worn parts such as gear teeth, bearings, valve seats, and mechanical components subject to heavy wear and abuse. Excellent for repairing machine parts in deep-hole drilling, excavation, and mining industries where components experience extreme mechanical stress.
▪ Industrial Machinery & Fabrication: Brazing of steel to steel, steel to cast iron, copper to nickel alloys, and various dissimilar metal combinations in machinery manufacturing. Used for joints and gears in automatic technological industries, steel-furniture manufacturing, and industrial equipment requiring high-strength brazed joints.
▪ High-Strength Structural Applications: Suitable for tubular structures and applications requiring maximum joint strength and corrosion resistance. Provides better color match to steel and cast iron compared to yellow brasses, making it preferable for applications where appearance is important.

FAQS
What makes RBCuZn-D different from other copper-based brazing alloys?
RBCuZn-D contains 9-11% nickel, providing significantly higher tensile strength (550-675MPa) compared to other copper brazing alloys, making it ideal for heavy-duty applications.
Can RBCuZn-D be used as a direct replacement for silver brazing alloys?
Yes, it is widely used as a cost-effective replacement for silver brazing alloys when higher brazing temperatures (1720-1800°F/940-980°C) are acceptable, offering comparable or superior strength at lower cost.
Is flux required when using RBCuZn-D brazing rod?
Flux-coated versions are available that may not require additional flux, but for bare rods, appropriate brazing flux is required; neutral or slightly oxidizing flames are recommended for optimal brazing results.
