Product Description
E410-16 is a premium martensitic stainless steel electrode compliant with AWS A5.4/A5.4M standards, designed for welding Type 410/410S stainless steels and similar 12-13% chromium alloys. Featuring a straight chromium composition (11.0-13.5wt.%) with low carbon (≤0.12wt.%), it provides excellent corrosion and oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures up to 1500°F (815°C). Compatible with SMAW (stick) process with DCEN or AC operation, it supports welding of similar martensitic stainless steels and overlay applications on carbon and low-alloy steels.
Features
▪ Superior Wear and Oxidation Resistance: Offers exceptional resistance to corrosion, erosion, and abrasion at high temperatures up to 1500°F. Effectively resists oxidation and provides excellent galling resistance, making it ideal for valve seats and sealing surfaces.
▪ Stable Performance: Martensitic structure with high hardness (38-45 HRC as-welded), achieving tensile strength of 520-800 MPa depending on post-weld heat treatment. Weld metal exhibits good strength and adequate ductility when proper PWHT is applied, with elongation ≥20%.
▪ Excellent Weldability: Ensures smooth arc action with minimal spatter, easy slag removal, and fine bead appearance. Compatible with DCEP (DC+) and AC polarities, it adapts to all-position welding (except vertical-down) with preheat and interpass temperatures above 400°F (200°C) recommended to prevent cracking.
Applications
▪ Ideal for wear-resistant and high-temperature applications, E410-16 is widely used in:
▪ Petrochemical Industry: Valve seats, pump components, and steam/gas fitting seals requiring abrasion resistance.
▪ Power Generation: Turbine parts, furnace components, and burner parts exposed to high temperatures.
▪ Steel Industry: Rolling mill surfacing, wear plates, and hardfacing applications.
▪ Chemical Processing: Equipment requiring corrosion and oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures.

FAQS
What preheat and post-weld heat treatment are recommended for E410-16?
Preheat to 400-600°F (200-315°C) is required, with PWHT at 1,350-1,400°F (730-760°C) for 1 hour to achieve proper ductility and reduce hardness.
Can E410-16 be used for overlay welding on carbon steel?
Yes, it's excellent for overlaying carbon and low-alloy steels to provide corrosion, erosion, and abrasion resistance with higher hardness than standard austenitic grades.
What is the typical hardness of E410-16 welds?
As-welded hardness ranges from 38-45 HRC, which can be reduced to approximately 34 HRC after proper post-weld heat treatment.
