Product Description
E6013 is a mild-steel electrode conforming to AWS A5.1/ASME SFA 5.1 specifications. It features a rutile-type coating with high titanium dioxide content and potassium silicate binder, designed for all-position welding (excluding vertical down for some brands). Compatible with AC and DC welding sources, ideal for low-voltage AC machines and sheet metal applications.
Features
▪ Excellent Weldability: Smooth and stable arc with low spatter; easy slag removal for clean bead appearance.
▪ All-Position Capability: Suitable for flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead welding positions.
▪ Shallow to Medium Penetration: Optimized for thin plates and poor-fit joints; small diameters excel on thin metals.
▪ AC/DC Compatibility: Operates on AC, DCEP, and DCEN (DCEN yields least penetration).
▪ Rutile-Based Coating: High titanium dioxide provides quiet arc and smooth, fine-rippled weld face.
Applications
▪ Sheet Metal & Light Fabrication: Thin plates, tanks, vessels, and structural steel works.
▪ General Manufacturing: Vehicles, railway wagons, machinery components, and metal buildings.
▪ Maintenance & Repair: Shaft buildup, machine parts, and general-purpose fabrication.
▪ Construction: Light structural steel, storage tanks, and building frames.

FAQS
What is the primary difference between E6013 and E6012?
E6013 contains potassium in its coating while E6012 contains sodium. This allows E6013 to operate on AC and DCEN, whereas E6012 only supports DCEP. E6013 also produces smoother bead appearance and quieter arc compared to E6012.
What welding current and polarity should be used?
E6013 works on AC, DCEP, and DCEN. For thin metals, use DCEN for least penetration; AC provides medium penetration. Typical current ranges: 2.5mm (50-90A), 3.2mm (80-130A), 4.0mm (130-210A), 5.0mm (170-230A). Decrease amperage by 15% for out-of-position welding.
Is post-weld heat treatment required for E6013?
No, E6013 does not require post-weld heat treatment. However, if electrodes have been exposed to moisture, re-dry at 120-150°C for 30-60 minutes before use to prevent porosity. Storage at 60-100°F with <50% humidity is recommended.
What are the typical mechanical properties?
Tensile strength: 430-540 MPa; Yield strength: 330-450 MPa; Elongation: 22-30%; Charpy V-notch impact: 50-80 J at 0°C (typical values). X-ray flaw detection level: II.
