Product Description
AWS E8018-C1 is a low-hydrogen iron powder coated electrode compliant with AWS A5.5 standards, designed for welding 0.5% nickel low-alloy steels requiring improved low-temperature toughness. Featuring a basic flux coating with low diffusible hydrogen content and 0.5% nickel alloy addition, it produces weld metal with excellent impact toughness at temperatures as low as -50°C (-60°F). Compatible with AC and DC+ polarities, it supports all-position welding for applications in cryogenic service, pressure vessels, and low-temperature environments requiring enhanced notch toughness.
Features
▪ Enhanced Low-Temperature Toughness: The 0.5% nickel alloy addition provides significantly improved impact toughness compared to standard carbon steel electrodes, meeting Charpy V-Notch requirements down to -50°C (-60°F). Essential for cryogenic and low-temperature service applications.
▪ High Mechanical Properties: Delivers weld metal with minimum tensile strength of 550 MPa (80 ksi), yield strength ≥460 MPa, and elongation ≥19%. The nickel-enhanced composition maintains excellent ductility while providing superior toughness at sub-zero temperatures.
▪ Low-Hydrogen Crack Resistance: Basic coating with diffusible hydrogen content typically ≤4ml/100g (H4 classification), significantly reducing the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking. Critical for welding nickel-containing steels and thick sections in low-temperature service.
▪ Versatile Performance: The iron powder coating provides good deposition efficiency while the nickel alloy enhances low-temperature toughness without sacrificing all-position welding capability. Operates smoothly on both AC and DC+ power sources.
Applications
▪ Ideal for low-temperature applications requiring weld metal with excellent notch toughness, E8018-C1 is widely used in:
▪ Cryogenic Equipment: Storage tanks, pressure vessels, and piping systems for liquefied gases, LNG facilities, and cryogenic service requiring weld toughness at temperatures down to -50°C.
▪ Pressure Vessels: ASME code vessels and pressure equipment requiring Charpy V-Notch testing at low temperatures, including low-temperature storage and processing equipment.
▪ Petrochemical & Chemical: Processing equipment, reactors, and vessels operating at low temperatures in petrochemical, chemical processing, and gas distribution industries.
▪ Northern Climate Applications: Outdoor structures, pipelines, and equipment in cold climate regions requiring weld metal toughness at low ambient temperatures to prevent brittle fracture.
