Product Description
ECoCr-A is a cobalt-base hardfacing electrode classified under AWS A5.13/EWC standards, known commercially as Stellite® equivalent. The electrode deposits weld metal containing approximately 30% chromium, 3-5% tungsten, 1.0-2.0% carbon, and the balance cobalt (approximately 60-65%). This composition creates a carbide-strengthened matrix with excellent high-temperature strength, hot hardness, and corrosion resistance. Compatible with AC or DC polarity, it produces as-welded hardness of 40-45 HRC (approximately 370-420 HB), capable of maintaining hardness at elevated temperatures up to 800°C (1472°F). The cobalt-base alloy offers exceptional resistance to thermal shock, oxidation, and galling in high-temperature service environments.
Features
▪ Exceptional High-Temperature Properties: Maintains hardness and strength at temperatures up to 800°C, making it ideal for hot working dies and high-temperature components requiring dimensional stability.
▪ Carbide Strengthening: The chromium carbides formed by the 30% chromium content and 1.0-2.0% carbon provide excellent wear resistance and hot hardness in severe service conditions.
▪ Thermal Shock Resistance: The cobalt matrix provides outstanding resistance to thermal cycling and thermal shock, preventing crack formation during rapid temperature changes.
▪ Excellent Corrosion Resistance: The high chromium content and cobalt base provide superior resistance to oxidation, corrosion, and galling in aggressive chemical and high-temperature environments.
▪ Versatile Weldability: Suitable for both AC and DC power sources, with DC+ (DCEP) recommended for optimal arc stability and minimal spatter during deposition.
Applications
▪ Widely used for hardfacing components subjected to high temperatures, severe wear, and corrosive environments, ECoCr-A is commonly applied in:
▪ Hot Working Dies: Die casting dies, forging dies, hot working tools, and extrusion dies requiring high-temperature hardness and thermal shock resistance.
▪ Aerospace & Turbine: Turbine blades, valve seats, and aerospace engine components requiring excellent high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance.
▪ Industrial Valves: Valve seats, valve trim, and valve components in high-temperature service requiring resistance to corrosion, galling, and wear.
▪ Metal Processing: Hot shear blades, hot strip mill guides, and metal processing equipment operating at elevated temperatures with severe wear conditions.
▪ Chemical Processing: Pump shafts, agitator blades, and chemical processing equipment requiring corrosion resistance and wear resistance in aggressive environments.

FAQS
What is the difference between ECoCr-A, ECoCr-B, and ECoCr-C?
ECoCr-A has moderate carbon (1.0-2.0%) and tungsten (3-5%) for balanced properties. ECoCr-B has higher carbon for increased hardness but reduced ductility. ECoCr-C contains higher tungsten (8-12%) for enhanced high-temperature performance and red hardness.
What is the maximum service temperature for ECoCr-A?
ECoCr-A maintains hardness and strength at temperatures up to 800°C (1472°F), making it suitable for most high-temperature applications.
What is the as-welded hardness of ECoCr-A?
The as-welded hardness is typically 40-45 HRC (approximately 370-420 HB), with slight variations depending on cooling rate and welding parameters.
