Product Description
E71T-9C is a gas-shielded flux cored welding wire compliant with AWS A5.20 standards, specifically designed for single-pass and multi-pass welding of carbon and low-alloy steels requiring 70 ksi (480 MPa) minimum tensile strength. The rutile-type flux core composition features 0.12% maximum carbon, 1.50-2.00% manganese, and 0.20-0.60% silicon, with the "9C" suffix indicating classification for use with 100% CO₂ shielding gas. Compatible with DCEP (DC+) polarity, it is optimized for flat and horizontal position welding with excellent weld metal toughness, including 27 J minimum at -20°C. The flux system produces smooth arc transfer, low spatter, and excellent slag removal for high productivity applications.
Features
▪ Optimized for Flat/Horizontal Positions: Specifically engineered for maximum deposition rates in flat (1G) and horizontal (2G/2F) fillet welds. The high fluidity slag system provides excellent weld bead profile and penetration in these positions.
▪ Enhanced Manganese Content: The elevated manganese content (1.50-2.00%) compared to E71T-1C provides increased weld metal strength and hardenability, delivering excellent mechanical properties with superior crack resistance.
▪ High Deposition Efficiency: Designed for maximum deposition rates, the flux core delivers 20-30% higher productivity than solid MIG wires. The smooth arc transfer and low spatter reduce post-weld cleanup time.
▪ Superior Weld Bead Appearance: Produces smooth, uniform weld beads with excellent wetting characteristics. The rutile slag system peels easily and provides minimal slag inclusions, reducing rework and improving X-ray pass rates.
▪ Excellent Toughness Requirements: Meeting the "T" classification for toughness, it delivers minimum 27 J Charpy V-Notch impact values at -20°C, making it suitable for structural applications requiring low-temperature toughness.
Applications
▪ Ideal for high-productivity welding requiring excellent mechanical properties and superior weld bead appearance, E71T-9C is widely used in:
▪ Shipbuilding & Marine: Hull plate welding, deck structures, and marine fabrication requiring high deposition rates with excellent bead profile and low-temperature toughness.
▪ Structural Steel Fabrication: Bridges, buildings, and heavy steel structures where flat and horizontal welding dominates, allowing maximum productivity while maintaining code-quality welds.
▪ Heavy Equipment Manufacturing: Construction machinery, mining equipment, and agricultural equipment requiring high-strength welds with excellent bead appearance and consistent mechanical properties.
▪ Railroad & Transportation: Rail car fabrication, truck and trailer manufacturing, and transportation equipment where high deposition rates and excellent weld quality are critical.
▪ General Fabrication: Medium to heavy fabrication in flat and horizontal positions requiring high productivity with reduced rework and consistent X-ray quality.

FAQS
What is the main difference between E71T-9C and E71T-1C?
E71T-9C is optimized specifically for flat and horizontal positions with higher deposition rates and enhanced manganese content (1.50-2.00%) for increased strength, while E71T-1C is designed for all-position welding including vertical and overhead with slightly lower manganese content.
Can E71T-9C be used for vertical welding?
While technically possible in vertical-up position, E71T-9C is not recommended for vertical or overhead welding as it is specifically designed and optimized for flat and horizontal positions. For vertical welding, E71T-1C or other all-position wires should be used.
Why is E71T-9C classified with "T" in the name?
The "T" in E71T-9C indicates compliance with the toughness requirement of minimum 27 J at -20°C, making it suitable for applications requiring low-temperature toughness and impact resistance.
What gas mixture can be used with E71T-9C?
E71T-9C is specifically classified for 100% CO₂ shielding gas. For applications requiring argon-CO₂ mixtures, E71T-9M should be used instead.
How does E71T-9C compare to E71T-1C in terms of deposition rate?
E71T-9C typically delivers higher deposition rates than E71T-1C when used in flat and horizontal positions due to its optimized flux system designed for maximum productivity in these positions.
