Product Description
ER80S-B2 is a solid chromium-molybdenum welding wire compliant with AWS A5.28 standards, designed for gas metal arc welding (GMAW/MIG) of 0.5Cr-0.5Mo chromium-molybdenum steels requiring elevated temperature strength and creep resistance. Featuring a composition with 0.07-0.12% carbon, 0.40-0.65% manganese, and 0.30-0.60% silicon, alloyed with 0.40-0.65% chromium and 0.40-0.65% molybdenum, it provides weld metal matching the chemical and mechanical properties of base materials like T-1, T-1a, and similar 0.5Cr-0.5Mo steels. Compatible with argon-rich shielding gases, it produces weld metal suitable for high-temperature service up to approximately 540°C (1000°F).
Features
▪ Elevated Temperature Strength: The 0.5Cr-0.5Mo alloy composition provides good creep and stress rupture resistance at elevated temperatures up to 540°C (1000°F). Essential for power boilers, pressure vessels, and high-temperature piping requiring long-term stability.
▪ Chemical Matching: The precise 0.5% chromium and 0.5% molybdenum content ensures the weld metal chemistry matches base materials like A387 Grade 2, T-1, T-1a, and similar Cr-Mo steels. Critical for homogeneous properties in high-temperature service.
▪ Good Mechanical Properties: Delivers tensile strength of 550-690 MPa, yield strength ≥470 MPa, and elongation ≥19%. The Cr-Mo combination provides strength at elevated temperatures while maintaining adequate ductility.
▪ High-Purity Composition: The controlled low impurity levels and balanced alloy content help maintain weld metal integrity in high-temperature hydrogen service environments. The solid wire provides clean weld metal with minimal inclusions.
Applications
▪ Ideal for elevated temperature applications requiring weld metal with creep resistance and high-temperature strength, ER80S-B2 is widely used in:
▪ Power Generation: Boilers, superheaters, and high-temperature piping systems in power plants requiring creep-resistant weld metal for intermediate temperature service.
▪ Petrochemical Processing: Refinery heaters, reactors, and process equipment operating at elevated temperatures requiring 0.5Cr-0.5Mo steel welds with good creep resistance.
▪ Pressure Vessels: ASME code pressure vessels constructed from A387 Grade 2 and similar 0.5Cr-0.5Mo steels for elevated temperature and pressure service.
▪ High-Temperature Piping: Steam lines, process piping, and header assemblies operating at temperatures up to 540°C requiring weld metal matching Cr-Mo base materials.
