Product Description
ER90S-B9 is an advanced chromium-molybdenum welding wire compliant with AWS A5.28 standards, designed for gas metal arc welding (GMAW/MIG) of 9Cr-1Mo-V modified ferritic steels requiring exceptional high-temperature strength and creep resistance. Featuring a composition with 0.08-0.13% carbon, 0.30-0.60% manganese, and 0.15-0.35% silicon, alloyed with 8.00-10.00% chromium, 0.85-1.15% molybdenum, and 0.18-0.25% vanadium with nitrogen additions, it provides weld metal matching T91, P91, and similar modified 9Cr-1Mo steels. Compatible with high argon content shielding gases, it produces weld metal suitable for high-temperature service up to approximately 620°C (1150°F).
Features
▪ Exceptional Creep Strength: The 9Cr-1Mo-V-N composition provides superior creep and stress rupture resistance at temperatures up to 620°C (1150°F), significantly outperforming traditional 2.25Cr-1Mo steels. Essential for ultra-supercritical power plants requiring long-term thermal stability.
▪ Advanced Alloy Design: The combination of high chromium (9%), molybdenum (1%), vanadium (0.2%), and controlled nitrogen creates a tempered martensitic microstructure with excellent high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance.
▪ High-Temperature Mechanical Properties: Delivers tensile strength of 620-860 MPa, yield strength ≥530 MPa, and elongation ≥17%. The alloy provides exceptional strength retention at temperatures above 600°C compared to lower-alloy Cr-Mo steels.
▪ Oxidation Resistance: The 9% chromium content provides excellent oxidation and corrosion resistance in high-temperature steam and flue gas environments, reducing material degradation in power boiler and superheater applications.
Applications
▪ Ideal for the most demanding high-temperature applications requiring advanced creep resistance, ER90S-B9 is widely used in:
▪ Ultra-Supercritical Power Generation: Main steam piping, superheaters, reheaters, and headers in ultra-supercritical power plants operating at temperatures above 600°C requiring superior creep resistance.
▪ High-Temperature Piping Systems: Hot reheat piping, bypass steam lines, and high-temperature process piping in power generation and petrochemical facilities requiring T91/P91 weld metal performance.
▪ Advanced Boilers: Modern high-efficiency boilers and supercritical power generation equipment requiring 9Cr-1Mo-V steels for elevated temperature service above 595°C.
▪ High-Energy Industrial Applications: Chemical processing, hydrogen production, and advanced thermal systems requiring creep-resistant weld metal at temperatures exceeding traditional Cr-Mo steel capabilities.
