Product Description

E307-16 is a premium austenitic stainless steel electrode compliant with AWS A5.4/A5.4M standards, designed for welding dissimilar steels and austenitic manganese steels. Featuring a unique 18-20% chromium, 9-11% nickel composition with elevated manganese (3.3-5.0wt.%), it provides excellent crack resistance and work hardening capability. Compatible with SMAW (stick) process with DCEN or AC operation, it supports welding of stainless steel to carbon steel, hardenable steels with poor weldability, and buffer layer applications.

Features

▪ Superior Crack Resistance and Work Hardening: Offers exceptional resistance to hot cracking and solidification cracking due to high manganese content. The weld metal exhibits excellent work hardening properties under impact, with hardness increasing from 200-220 BHN as-welded to 500 BHN under impact loading.
▪ Stable Performance: Full austenitic structure with excellent mechanical properties, including tensile strength of 590-750 MPa and elongation ≥30%. Weld metal exhibits good toughness and impact resistance, with hardness of HRC 50-56 in as-welded condition, providing excellent wear resistance without post-weld heat treatment.
▪ Excellent Weldability: Ensures smooth arc action with minimal spatter, easy slag removal, and good bead appearance. Compatible with DCEP (DC+) and AC polarities, it adapts to all-position welding (except vertical-down) with preheat up to 250°C for difficult-to-weld steels. Lower current recommended to minimize base metal dilution and prevent cracking.

Applications

▪ Ideal for dissimilar metal welding and wear-resistant applications, E307-16 is widely used in:
▪ Railway Industry: Crossings, points, and heavily loaded welds requiring impact and wear resistance.
▪ Steel Industry: Hot dies, rolls, and gear teeth subjected to high wear and impact loading.
▪ Automotive & Machinery: Shafts, machine parts, and valve seats requiring abrasion resistance.
▪ General Fabrication: Buffer layers for hard surfacing applications and joining austenitic manganese steel to carbon steel.
