Product Description
E7018 is a low-hydrogen, iron powder electrode conforming to AWS A5.1/ASME SFA 5.1 specifications, featuring a basic coating with mineral-based flux. Designed for all-position welding (including vertical-down for some brands), compatible with AC and DCEP polarity. The coating contains limestone and other low-moisture ingredients to produce weld deposits with low hydrogen content (H4R classification ≤4 mL/100g).
Features
▪ Low Hydrogen Content: Basic coating minimizes hydrogen-induced cracking, suitable for high-restraint joints and thick sections.
▪ High Deposition Rate: Iron powder coating provides ~110-130% metal recovery with high deposition efficiency.
▪ Excellent Mechanical Properties: Tensile strength 70,000 psi (480 MPa) minimum; exceptional low-temperature toughness with Charpy V-notch values of 20-27 ft-lbs at -50°F (-46°C) for E7018-1 variant.
▪ Smooth Arc Operation: Quiet arc with low spatter; easy slag removal for radiographic quality welds.
▪ All-Position Capability: Suitable for flat, horizontal, vertical-up, vertical-down, and overhead welding positions.
Applications
▪ Structural Steel: Bridges, buildings, offshore platforms, and heavy steel structures.
▪ Pressure Vessels: Boilers, nuclear reactor shells, and high-pressure piping.
▪ Marine Industry: Shipbuilding, frigates, and submarines.
▪ Heavy Equipment: Drilling rigs, earth-moving machinery, mining equipment, and rail wagons.
▪ Dynamic Loading Applications: Structures subjected to impact and cyclic stresses.

FAQS
What is the primary difference between E6013 and E6012?
E6013 contains potassium in its coating while E6012 contains sodium. This allows E6013 to operate on AC and DCEN, whereas E6012 only supports DCEP. E6013 also produces smoother bead appearance and quieter arc compared to E6012.
What welding current and polarity should be used?
E6013 works on AC, DCEP, and DCEN. For thin metals, use DCEN for least penetration; AC provides medium penetration. Typical current ranges: 2.5mm (50-90A), 3.2mm (80-130A), 4.0mm (130-210A), 5.0mm (170-230A). Decrease amperage by 15% for out-of-position welding.
Is post-weld heat treatment required for E6013?
No, E6013 does not require post-weld heat treatment. However, if electrodes have been exposed to moisture, re-dry at 120-150°C for 30-60 minutes before use to prevent porosity. Storage at 60-100°F with <50% humidity is recommended.
What are the typical mechanical properties?
Tensile strength: 430-540 MPa; Yield strength: 330-450 MPa; Elongation: 22-30%; Charpy V-notch impact: 50-80 J at 0°C (typical values). X-ray flaw detection level: II.
