Product Description
AWS E9018-B3 is a low-hydrogen iron powder coated electrode compliant with AWS A5.5 standards, designed for welding 2.25Cr-1Mo chromium-molybdenum steels requiring elevated temperature strength and creep resistance. Featuring a basic flux coating with low diffusible hydrogen content and precise alloy additions (2.25% chromium, 1.0% molybdenum), it produces weld metal matching the chemical and mechanical properties of base materials like SA387 Grade 11 and SA387 Grade 22. Compatible with AC and DC+ polarities, it supports all-position welding for high-temperature service applications in power generation and petrochemical industries.
Features
▪ Creep Resistance at Elevated Temperatures: The 2.25Cr-1Mo alloy composition provides excellent creep and stress rupture resistance at temperatures up to 595°C (1100°F). Essential for power boilers, pressure vessels, and high-temperature piping requiring long-term stability.
▪ High-Temperature Strength: Delivers weld metal with minimum tensile strength of 620 MPa (90 ksi) at room temperature and maintains strength at elevated service temperatures. The chromium-molybdenum combination provides oxidation resistance and mechanical properties under thermal cycling.
▪ Low-Hydrogen Formulation: Basic coating with diffusible hydrogen content typically ≤4ml/100g (H4 classification), critical for preventing hydrogen-induced cracking in thick sections and highly restrained joints characteristic of pressure vessel construction.
▪ Chemical Matching: The precise 2.25% chromium and 1.0% molybdenum content ensures the weld metal chemistry matches base materials like SA387 Gr. 11/22, A387 Gr. 11/22, and similar Cr-Mo steels. Essential for homogeneous properties in high-temperature service.
Applications
▪ Ideal for high-temperature applications requiring weld metal with creep resistance and elevated temperature strength, E9018-B3 is widely used in:
▪ Power Generation: Boilers, superheaters, reheaters, and high-temperature piping systems in fossil fuel power plants requiring long-term creep resistance at elevated temperatures.
▪ Petrochemical Processing: Refinery reactors, heaters, hydrocracking units, and catalytic crackers operating at high temperatures with hydrogen service requiring Cr-Mo steels.
▪ Pressure Vessels: ASME code pressure vessels constructed from SA387 Grade 11 or Grade 22 plates for high-temperature and high-pressure service in chemical processing and refining industries.
▪ High-Temperature Piping: Steam lines, process piping, and header assemblies operating at temperatures above 400°C requiring creep-resistant weld metal matching Cr-Mo base materials.
