Product Description
EFeMn-A is a manganese steel welding electrode (stick electrode) classified under AWS A5.13 specification, designed for welding and surfacing of austenitic manganese steel (Hadfield steel) containing approximately 11-14% manganese and 1.0-1.4% carbon. The electrode deposits weld metal with matching chemical composition including 11-14% Mn, 0.7-1.2% C, and nickel additions of 3-5% to enhance toughness and crack resistance. Compatible with AC or DC polarity, it produces austenitic weld metal with excellent work-hardening characteristics, essential for joining high-manganese steels that cannot be welded with conventional low-alloy electrodes due to carbon precipitation and embrittlement.
Features
▪ Matching Composition: Deposits weld metal with nearly identical manganese content (11-14%) to base material, maintaining the unique work-hardening properties of austenitic manganese steel that increases hardness under impact loading.
▪ Nickel Alloying Addition: Contains 3-5% nickel to enhance weld metal toughness, reduce hot cracking susceptibility, and improve ductility. The nickel addition stabilizes the austenitic structure and helps prevent martensite formation during cooling.
▪ Excellent Work-Hardening: The deposited weld metal exhibits exceptional work-hardening characteristics, with surface hardness increasing from approximately 200-250 HB (as-welded) to 450-500 HB after impact or deformation, providing excellent wear resistance in service.
▪ High Crack Resistance: The balanced chemical composition and nickel alloying provide excellent resistance to hot cracking and solidification cracking during welding of high-manganese steels, which are notoriously difficult to weld with conventional electrodes.
▪ Versatile Power Source Compatibility: Suitable for both AC and DC power sources, with DC+ (DCEP) recommended for optimal arc stability and penetration characteristics.
Applications
▪ Specifically designed for welding and repair of austenitic manganese steel components that experience severe impact and abrasion, EFeMn-A is widely used in:
▪ Mining Equipment: Crusher liners, grinding mills, rock crusher jaws, and mining machinery components subject to extreme impact and abrasion requiring high work-hardening weld metal.
▪ Railroad Applications: Railway track crossing frogs, switch points, and railroad components requiring high impact resistance and work-hardening characteristics to withstand heavy traffic loads.
▪ Steel Mill Equipment: Rolling mill rolls, hot strip mill components, and steel processing equipment where high-manganese steel is used for its superior wear and impact resistance.
▪ Construction Machinery: Excavator buckets, crusher components, and heavy construction equipment subjected to severe impact loading requiring work-hardenable weld deposits.
▪ Quarry & Aggregate: Stone crusher wear parts, screening equipment, and aggregate processing machinery components requiring excellent impact and abrasion resistance.

FAQS
Why is EFeMn-A required for welding manganese steel?
Conventional electrodes cause carbide precipitation and embrittlement in manganese steel. EFeMn-A deposits matching composition to maintain austenitic structure and work-hardening properties.
Can EFeMn-A weld carbon steel to manganese steel?
No, use stainless steel or nickel-based electrodes as intermediate buttering layer for dissimilar metal welding between carbon steel and manganese steel.
What welding precautions are needed?
Use low heat input, short arc length, avoid weaving and excessive travel speed. Do not preheat; cool rapidly to prevent carbide precipitation.
