Product Description
ER321 is a premium titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel solid welding wire compliant with AWS A5.9 and EN ISO 14343-A G 18 10 Ti standards, specifically designed for welding titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steels requiring resistance to intergranular corrosion. Featuring a nominal composition of 17.0-19.0% chromium, 9.0-12.0% nickel, 0.15-0.40% titanium and carbon content ≤0.08%, it delivers excellent high-temperature stability and intergranular corrosion resistance, with a full austenitic deposited metal structure. Common diameters range from 0.8-3.2 mm, packaged in coils (15 kg) or straight sticks (5 kg), operating with DC reverse connection (DCEP) for versatile application in high-temperature and corrosive industrial environments.
Features
· ER321 offers excellent weldability and all-position performance, with its titanium-stabilized formula ensuring stable arc transfer, minimal spatter, smooth weld bead and easy slag removal, suitable for all welding positions (flat, horizontal, vertical-up, overhead).
· Its smooth surface enables consistent wire feeding, ideal for automatic, semi-automatic and robot welding, reducing wire jamming and improving welding efficiency even in variable fit-up conditions.
· It delivers exceptional tensile strength (≥550 MPa), yield strength (≥240 MPa) and elongation (≥35%), with excellent toughness at both room and elevated temperatures.
· The addition of titanium stabilizes carbon, effectively preventing intergranular corrosion during welding and high-temperature service, while its Cr-Ni base provides good general corrosion resistance.
· Compatible with GMAW (Ar+(2-5%)CO₂ or Ar+(0.5-3%)O₂) and GTAW (pure Ar) processes, with DC reverse connection (DCEP preferred), it requires pre-drying at 250-350°C for 1 hour for critical applications, ensuring low maintenance and operational flexibility.
Applications
Widely used across diverse industries requiring high-temperature stability and intergranular corrosion resistance, ER321 is primarily applied for welding Type 321, 321H stainless steels and other titanium-stabilized austenitic alloys. It is extensively used in thermal power plants, petrochemical refineries, and industrial furnaces for fabricating and repairing high-temperature components such as boiler tubes, furnace liners, heat exchangers and exhaust manifolds. Suitable for welding dissimilar steels involving high-temperature service, it is also applied in chemical processing equipment, aerospace components and marine structures exposed to elevated temperatures and mild corrosive media, delivering reliable performance in harsh operating conditions.

FAQS
What is the primary use of ER321 welding wire?
ER321 is primarily used for welding Type 321 stainless steel (titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel) and other similar titanium-stabilized alloys. It is extensively applied in industries requiring resistance to intergranular corrosion, such as fabricating and repairing boiler tubes, heat exchangers, and structural components in thermal power, chemical processing, and general industrial manufacturing.
How does ER321 achieve excellent intergranular corrosion resistance?
ER321 is a titanium-stabilized austenitic welding wire, and the added titanium can effectively bind with carbon, preventing the formation of chromium carbides that cause intergranular corrosion. Its low carbon content also enhances corrosion stability, making it resistant to intergranular corrosion even in high-temperature or mild corrosive environments.
What are the recommended welding parameters for ER321?
It is compatible with GMAW and GTAW processes. For GMAW, Ar+(2-5%)CO₂ is recommended; for GTAW, pure argon is used. DC reverse connection (DCEP) is preferred, and pre-drying at 200-300°C for 1 hour is recommended for critical applications to ensure weld quality and corrosion resistance.
